About the Artist
Growing up in ski country in the outskirts of Buffalo, New York, Deanna’s childhood consisted of exploring the forests near her house, building forts, going on adventures, and pretending to be in another world. Her imagination blossomed from there, and her love of nature lives within. The art she creates has become a full expression of her dreams and emotions even from these earlier memories. Currently, she resides on the edge of a forest in Florida with her husband, daughter, dog, and cat, still making adventures hand-in-hand with her family.
For the past 17 years, Deanna has been selling her art to the public at Renaissance Festivals and Comic Cons around the country. Her artwork conveys the beautiful flaws and emotions of the human condition, as well as interpretations of fairy tale characters, broken dolls, and anthropomorphic animals. Graduating from Buffalo State College in 1999 with a degree in Arts Education & Art History, she continues to hone her art style and capture the beautifully dark subject matter with a mixed media style that includes graphite, watercolor, markers, and more.
What inspires me?
I’ve been greatly inspired by nature and dark, yet romantic styles. As a teenager, I was exposed to the writings of Anne Rice, who was a huge influence on my gothic design and sensibility. I dreamt of Gothic and Rococo architecture, mystical beings, and the natural world infused within it all.
Why did I start selling my art?
In the mid 2000s, I started selling my art at local Renaissance Festivals with the encouragement of my husband. Unsure how my art would be received, I was pleasantly surprised at how many people related to my work. This reassurance, along with my husband, friends, and family, gave me the initiative to pursue my dreams, and I haven’t looked back since.
